How do I download and read ebooks from Ebook Central using Adobe Digital Editions?

Starting May 1, 2025, EbookCentral will default to the EPUB format in the online reader to improve accessibility. You can still switch to PDF when available and download ebooks for offline reading using Adobe Digital Editions.

  2. Sign in with your SDSUid.

  3. Click Download Book.

  4. Choose your device and loan period.

  5. Select your preferred format (EPUB or PDF, when available).

  6. Download and open the .acsm file in Adobe Digital Editions

Do I need Adobe Digital Editions for chapter downloads?

No. You can download PDFs of individual chapters or page ranges without Adobe Digital Editions. These can be opened with any standard PDF reader.

Be aware that publishers set daily limits on how much you can print or download.

Why is Ebook Central using EPUB as the default format?

EPUB is more accessible, especially for users with screen readers. It's reflowable, meaning the content adjusts to different screen sizes and devices.

Note: Page numbers may differ between EPUB and PDF. If you're citing or assigning page numbers, consider using the PDF format when available.

Can I still choose PDF instead of EPUB?

Yes! If a title supports both formats, you can select PDF during the download process or switch formats in the online reader.
