Can I access a book, journal, or government document in Compact Shelving (Record says "Place Hold for Retrieval")?

Answer

*This information was updated on August 19th, 2024*

The SDSU Library is renovating the compact shelving units that hold several older and lower use books, journals, and our government documents collection. Any item that says "Place Hold for Retrieval" in the item record is located in Compact Shelving. This renovation has forced us to move these materials and make them temporarily inaccessible. The CDs and VHS in Compact Shelving are still available to be paged, but the Compact Shelving books, journals, and government documents will not be accessible until after the completion of the renovation project.

The anticipated completion date was between November 2024 and January 2025, but a water intrusion event in the Library Addition in June 2024 has delayed the completion of the shelving renovation. The library is working with campus facilities, vendors, and campus administration to complete the project as soon as possible, and this page will be updated as projected timelines are determined.
