What is microform? How can I access things on microform?

Answer

Microforms are scaled-down reproductions of documents, typically either films or paper, made for the purposes of transmission, storage, reading, and printing (Wikipedia entry). We have materials in both microfilm (stored on reels) and microfiche (flat sheets).

Our microforms are shelved in the Microforms Center/Microfiche, Room LA-74, which is in the basement of the Library Addition. We have 1 reader/scanner which can be used to view, and scan materials to PDF, jpeg, and other formats.

To access microforms, please ask for assistance at the Info Desk (1st floor Dome). Our staff will unlock the room for you. If you are a guest without an SDSU id, please ask for the username and password for the computer, so you can use the reader/scanner.
