How can I borrow a book from another library?

Answer

San Diego State University students, faculty, and staff may request books, articles, and other items that are not available at San Diego State University for free.

Items obtained on loan from other libraries usually arrive within 7 business days. Articles are delivered electronically within 3 business days.

Find & Request it!

Search for items in the SDSU Library OneSearch and select the blue "Get It" button. 

Can't find it? Let us help!

Use the Request Form if you do not have a complete citation. The ILL office will assist with submitting the complete request.

Looking for a book? 

Try Circuit, the fastest way to get a book not in the SDSU Library collection. Try borrowing it from our regional academic and public libraries.  To see how to request books from Circuit, check out these instructions: San Diego Circuit

 

Request Status 

You will receive an email to SDSUid account when your request is ready for download or pick up at the Circulation Desk. You can also check the status of your request by:

  1. Log in to My Library Account
  2. Click on your name in the top right corner
  3. Select My Requests

*Don't see your request? Please check your ILLiad account (service available until June 30, 2025)

Renew your ILL Items

  1. Log in to My Library Account

  2. Click on your name in the top right corner
  3. Select My Loans and choose the item to renew
  4. Click on the Renew link associated with the item.
  5. If the Renew option doesn't appear, this means the item is not available for renewal at that time.  Contact ill@sdsu.edu about other available options.

Return your Physical ILL Items

Return all items directly to the Circulation Desk on or before the due date. Please do not remove the identifying strap from the book cover.
