Wi-Fi for Students

FAQ and support for logging in to the SDSU Wi-Fi network, eduroam.

Answer

What is eduroam?

Eduroam is SDSU's secured and encrypted wireless network offered to those who have activated their SDSUid.  More information about eduroam can be found at wifi.sdsu.edu.

How do I log in to eduroam?

You must use your SDSUid and password to log in to eduroam.  If you can manually log in (don’t let your computer auto log you in) successfully at portal.office.com with your SDSUid and password, then you know your password is correct.

General eduroam Setup Instructions:

  • Select the “eduroam” network in the Wi-Fi settings of your device.
  • If asked, choose the following settings:
    • SSID:  eduroam
    • WPA2-Enterprise:  PEAP / MSCHAPv2
    • EAP method:  PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication:  MSCHAPV2
    • CA certificate:  Do not validate/Do not check
      • If "Do not validate" is not an option, select "Use system certificates" and add domain below
    • Domain:  sdsu.edu
  • Enter your SDSUid (your @sdsu.edu email address) and password
    • Username/Identity: username@sdsu.edu
    • Password: your-sdsuid-password
    • Anonymous identity:  leave blank or use anonymous@sdsu.edu
  • If asked, trust any clearpass.sdsu.edu certificates that popup
  • Choose the “Connect” option.
  • You should now be connected securely to eduroam.

More instructions can be found at wifi.sdsu.edu.

How do I forget the eduroam network after a password reset?

If you reset your SDSUid password, you must forget the eduroam network on your device and reconnect using the new password.  You are required to reset your SDSUid password once a year.  To find the latest instructions for forgetting a wireless network on your device, do a simple internet search for “forget the network on” and your operating system or device.  An example would be, “forget the network on Windows 10”, or “forget the network on iPhone”.

How do I connect to a smart device in my dorm or residence hall?

RezCon provides dedicated computer support for all residential communities.  Their services include troubleshooting internet connections, software installation, virus removal and more.  Please contact them for support connecting a smart device, such as a TV or game console, to eduroam.  They can be reached at 619-594-0517 or rezcon@sdsu.edu.  You may also want to try the RezCon website which provides general connection and troubleshooting guidelines.  You can submit a service request at https://housing.sdsu.edu/services-amenities/service

How do I connect to Wi-Fi as an alumni or guest?

For graduating students, your SDSUid is deleted one year from graduation.  For all others (including credential/certificate programs) 90 days after the final day of the last enrolled semester.  At this time SDSUids are not available for alumni, therefore, you must use the guest wireless network. Alumni and guests can connect to the wireless network using SDSU_Guest.  Guest wireless will require an SMS support device to connect to the network.  Your username and password will be sent as an SMS (text) message to the phone number you provide.

SDSU guest wireless access is valid for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you will be prompted to re-register. Guest wireless access is provided on an as-is basis. SDSU staff members are not able to troubleshoot guest connections or computers.
